Mane Tress.

Mane Tress was founded in 2014 by celebrity hairstylist Alexander Armand. Mane Tress is a lifestyle brand, representing the woman who wants high quality extensions without compromising the integrity of her hair by any means! All of our products are direct from India, and are made with the 100% chemical-free virgin Indian human hair. All of our products can be shampooed, conditioned, curled, straightened, and colored to achieve your desired style. Having the cuticles in the same direction promotes very minimal shedding and tangling, allowing you to reuse the hair for over a year with proper maintenance and up keep.

Creative process.

Brief.

Research.

If we observe some of the logos explored in the research process, we could identify recognized brands and competitors related to Mane Trees. If we analyze these concepts, the most common technique is the usage of parallel lines, some of them curves others straight, which is an excellent technique to create a visual connection between these brands and the product (hair extensions). Additionally we should keep in mind that MANE TRESS target market are women from ages 18-45 and male and female hair stylist. From that perspective it is important to highlight that we should design a concept focused to both genders, not to soft to capture the male market and to strong to capture the female market as well.

Conceptualization.

After some brainstorming and sketching I found the perfect way to create the connection between the brand name and the concept by using the MT initials. If we analyze the graphics at the right, we could se that the initials MT are conformed basically for straight lines, which are an interesting alternative to a design a concept that creates a visual connection between the product (hairs extensions) as was expressed previously in the research phase.

Production.

Before going further it was important to explore some alternatives and analyze different shapes to drive the concept in the right direction, we can see some interesting options here, but since my objective is to design an unique and fresh concept, I have decided to represent the idea without using any existing font or typography and create a custom shape.

The logo main body will be conformed by 4 straight lines to achieve a solid but elegant look.

At the bottom part we will incorporate some semicircles to give softness to the stripes and at the same time they could be interpreted as hair.  The first three curves will be facing to the left and the forth one will be facing to the right.

At the top we will find some semicircles which  main purpose is to connect the initial stripes in such as specific way that we will have as a result the  consonants MT which are  the brand name  initials.
